What
You'll Need
- Latex Satin Paint
- Rubber or Decorative Stamp, preferably
with a flexible foam back
- Paint Tray
- Roller (Craft or low-nap)
Step 1:
Start by selecting your paint color(s) for the stamping
technique. If you are planning to paint your walls with a
basecoat as well, be sure to follow all manufacturer's
instructions and adhere to the recommended drying time on
the can prior to stamping.
Step 2:
Choose your stamp design. Most craft stores will have both
rubber stamps and the foam decorator stamps. Try to find
stamps that are not too intricate in their design and also
have a flexible base. The reason for using a flexible base
material is so that as you press the design to the wall, the
base will bend and conform to any irregularities in the wall
surface. This will help more of your design to transfer.
Depending on the look you want, either measure out and mark
lightly with a pencil where you want to place the
stamp or, if you feel confident (and brave!), stamp them
randomly on the walls. Also, if you will be using more than
one color and/or stamp design, be sure to factor that into
your design plan as well.
Step 3:
Pour the paint color you'll be stamping with into the paint
tray. Using the small artist roller or a roller with a low
nap roller cover, load up the roller with paint. Roll some
of it off on the slope of the tray. Take it to the stamp and
roll some paint on lightly, covering the stamp design. Step
back and survey your placement every once in a while to make
sure you're on track. Take your time!
Step 4:
Congratulations! You have successfully created a design that
reflects your room and your personality! Whether you chose a
modern, elegant, or funky stamp design, you're sure to
create a dynamic effect in any room!
